Announcing the launch of Cabin Fever, an anthology of long-form narrative non-fiction pieces with one thing in common: all were written by participants in the Literary Journalism Program at the Banff Centre for the Arts. If you don't know about this program, you should. For writers, it is Shangri-La. A one month writing residency set in a cabin in the Rockies. I went in the summer of 2006, and my life since has been one long sad attempt to recapture the magic of those days. The article I wrote there (The Blue Jewel of the Jungle) is included in the book, but that's not why you should buy it. You should buy the book because every other piece in there is stunning.
The Utne Reader's 1st International Issue (May/June) is on newsstands now. Check it out to read my cover story on the mines of Potosi, Bolivia, an adapted excerpt from the original Walrus article with new photos from Jason Rothe. Thanks to the gang at Utne for choosing us, and for being so pleasant to work with. Hope to do it again sometime.
